4 Best Mobility Scooters For Tall People

Taller people often struggle to find things that fit properly. From clothes to cars, it seems that most things are designed for average size people. Well, being a tall mobility scooter user is no exception. Hence our article for the best mobility scooters for tall people.

You may find that the unit is too small for you or the seat may not go high enough, which eventually will lead to your knees sticking out, or the center of gravity might be so high that the scooter does not feel stable.

Therefore, basing your decision only on price or a couple of cool features could be a mistake because there are specific features that you want to consider as a taller person namely: height, length, power, maneuverability and stability.

While many other qualities of a mobility scooter can improve the quality of life of the user, if these listed features are not present, the driving experience may not be as comfortable.

Here are a few things to look for if you are tall:

Length: -

If you have longer legs look for a scooter length of at least 5 inches. Luckily, most scooters are about this length. You also do not want your knees to hit the handles, therefore you want a scooter with an adjustable tiller.

Height: -

From the seat to the deck should be at least 20 inches. This is almost right for a person 6 feet tall so that their feet can comfortably sit on the deck. Many scooters have seat to deck measurements that only go as high as 18 to 19 inches.

If the height is too short, your knees will be in the air or out on the sides. Just as a reference, the average dining room chair is 17-20 inches from the seat to the floor.

Stability: -

Look for scooters equipped with anti-tip wheels attached to either the front or the rear wheels, which will prevent a tipping accident.

Maneuverability: -

Look at the turning radius specifications. The smaller the turning radius the better. There are a couple of four-wheel scooters that do better in this feature than the three-wheel scooters.

You also want to have better than average ground clearance. A scooter should have at least 3 inches of ground clearance. This is important for taller or heavier people, as it is quite frustrating to get high centered, which happens when the chassis of the wheelchair gets stuck on uneven ground, or on any obstacle on the road with the wheels raised off the ground or unable to gain traction.

Adequate Power: -

Look at the range of the battery (the miles per charge), the higher the better. The speed of the scooter will also give you an indication of its power. The scooter should have adequate weight capacity, at least 50 pounds more than you weigh. If lower it will affect the scooter’s power performance.

Here are four mobility scooters that are appropriate for people taller than 6 feet.
