Most mobility scooters are built to get you from point A to point B. The Bespoke Prestige mobility scooter is built to make the trip enjoyable. With a top speed of 15 mph, up to 35 miles of range, and a look you can customize right down to the color of the wheel rims, it belongs to a category of its own: the recreational scooter.
Kellon from our Electric Wheelchairs USA team took the Prestige out around his neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida, and put it through grass, hills, a curb, and full-speed braking tests. This review walks through what he found, including the features that impressed him most and the one downside he wanted to be upfront about.
The Prestige is a full size 4-wheel mobility scooter from Bespoke Mobility, a brand that focuses exclusively on recreational scooters. Every scooter in the Bespoke lineup shares the same headline feature: a top speed of 15 mph, which is well beyond the 4 to 8 mph of a typical mobility scooter.
This is an outdoor scooter. It isn't designed for use inside the home, and it isn't meant to be taken apart and loaded into a car trunk. Instead, it's ideal for riders who live in golf cart communities, quiet neighborhoods, or anywhere with plenty of room to cruise.
If you've shopped for mobility scooters before, the Prestige may feel quite different from what you're used to. Recreational scooters like the Bespoke lineup are designed around a different goal: enjoyable outdoor riding over longer distances. Here's how the Prestige compares with many standard mobility scooters:

Hand brakes; coasts when you release the throttle |
|
Styling |

Neither type is better overall. It all depends on how you plan to ride. If most of your trips are through stores or indoors, or your scooter needs to fit in a car trunk, a standard or folding travel scooter makes more sense. If you want to cruise your neighborhood, visit friends across the community, or enjoy longer rides outdoors, a recreational scooter like the Prestige is built for exactly that.

This is where the Prestige really stands apart. Most mobility scooters come in one or two colors. The Prestige lets you build your own look with three separate choices:
Scooter body: Red, Blue, or White
Seat: Black (standard), White, or Brown
Wheel rims: Chrome (standard), White, Black, Red, or Gold
The scooter in our video is red with a brown seat and red rims, and it definitely turns heads. If you've ever felt that mobility equipment looks too clinical, the Prestige is a refreshing change.
Black seats and chrome rims come standard. Upgraded seat and rim colors are each available for an additional $199, and there's a special price when you upgrade both at the same time. If you choose White for the scooter body, allow about seven extra days of lead time.
Storage was one of Kellon's favorite features. The Prestige gives you:
A rear basket for groceries or bags
A small storage area and cup holder on the front tiller
A lockable compartment hidden underneath the seat
The under-seat compartment is a nice surprise. As Kellon pointed out, most people who see the scooter would never guess there's secure storage tucked beneath the seat.
The Prestige handled grassy terrain without any trouble, and riding on grass didn't reduce its 15 mph top speed. The 10-inch air-filled tires and four-wheel suspension keep the ride steady on uneven ground. If off-pavement riding is a priority, our list of the Top 6 Outdoor All Terrain Mobility Scooters covers what else to look for.
Florida isn't known for its hills, but Kellon found a few to test. Starting from a complete stop on an incline, the Prestige worked a little harder but made it to the top every time. With a running start at full speed, it climbed with ease.
That's an honest and useful result. The Prestige uses a 600-watt motor, which is less powerful than some heavy-duty scooters. It performs well on gentle to moderate hills, especially with some momentum. If you live somewhere mountainous or with long, steep grades, a more powerful heavy-duty model may be a better fit.
On a small 3 to 4 inch curb, the Prestige climbed right up. The key is to approach the curb squarely so both front wheels meet it at the same time.
This is one of the most important things to understand before you buy. Unlike most mobility scooters, the Prestige doesn't use electromagnetic brakes that slow you down automatically when you release the throttle. Instead, it coasts, much like a bicycle, and you stop using two hand brakes, one on each handlebar.
In Kellon's testing, squeezing one brake slowed the scooter, but squeezing both gave much firmer stopping power. That's why riders should be comfortable braking with both hands.
An optional electric brake assist is available. It slows the scooter when you let off the throttle, but it isn't the same as an electromagnetic brake. From full speed, you may still roll about 15 to 20 feet, so you'll still use the hand brakes to come to a complete stop.
There's an upside to this design, too. There's no freewheel lever to worry about, so if the battery ever runs out, the scooter is easy to push.
The Prestige uses a twist-grip throttle with a three-position speed switch:
Setting 1: up to 4 mph, great for busy or crowded areas
Setting 2: up to 8 mph, a comfortable cruising pace
Setting 3: up to 15 mph, for open paths and neighborhood streets
Other controls include a reverse button with a warning beep, a loud horn button on each side, and left and right turn signals. The digital display shows your speed in mph, battery level, and odometer.
The lighting package is excellent for evening rides. It includes side running lights, taillights, brake lights, front and rear turn signals, and a headlight with high and low beams.
The diamond-stitched captain's seat offers plenty of adjustment:
The seat slides forward and back, toward or away from the tiller
Height-adjustable headrest
Reclining backrest
Flip-up armrests for easier transfers, with an adjustable angle dial
For reference, Kellon is 6'4", weighs 235 lbs, and wears a size 13 shoe. With the seat slid all the way back, he rode comfortably with plenty of foot room, and he believes riders even taller than him could fit comfortably too.
The Prestige comes with a wireless key fob that works much like a car's. The lock button arms a loud alarm, and the unlock button turns it off. There's also a keyless start feature: tap the lightning bolt button twice, and you can ride without the key in the ignition.
Between the alarm and the lockable under-seat storage, the Prestige offers real peace of mind when you park it outside a shop or community center.
The Prestige arrives fully assembled and shrink-wrapped, with the seat folded down. There are only two setup steps:
Attach the rear-view mirrors. You'll need a wrench to hold the nut in place while you tighten each mirror. It's a little tricky the first time, but very manageable.
Turn on the breaker switch. It's located in the rear compartment and ships in the off position. If you live in a cold climate and plan to store the scooter for a long stretch, switching the breaker off again is a good idea.
The front bumper bar gives the Prestige a sharp look. It doesn't extend past the front wheels, though, so think of it as more of a style feature than a protective one.
In the spirit of full transparency, Kellon pointed out one real drawback: the turning radius. At 90.6 inches, the Prestige needs a good amount of space to make a U-turn.
Because this is an outdoor recreational scooter used on streets, paths, and open areas, a wide turning radius is rarely a deal-breaker. Still, if you need to maneuver in tight spaces, it's worth keeping in mind.
The Prestige is one of several scooters in Bespoke's recreational lineup. Every model shares the same 15 mph top speed and up to 35 miles of range, so the biggest differences come down to the number of wheels and who each model is built for.

Three-wheel scooters generally turn more tightly, which can help in narrower spaces. Four-wheel scooters offer a wider, more stable base that feels planted on grass, slopes and uneven ground.
Since turning radius is the Prestige's one real downside, a three-wheel Bespoke such as the Elite or Supreme may appeal to you if maneuverability matters most. If stability matters more, the Prestige's four-wheel design is the better match. And if you need a higher weight capacity, the Platinum is Bespoke's bariatric four-wheel model.

The Prestige is an excellent fit if you:
Live in a golf cart community, retirement community, or quiet neighborhood
Want a scooter that's fun to ride, not just functional
Value style and want to personalize your scooter
Plan to take longer rides that call for real range
Are a taller rider who needs generous legroom
It may not be the best choice if you need a scooter for indoor use, frequent car transport, or very steep terrain, or if you'd prefer the automatic stopping of electromagnetic brakes. In that case, browse our full range of full size mobility scooters and 4-wheel mobility scooters to compare options.
A note on riding in the street: the Prestige is not technically classified as street legal. Many riders use it on neighborhood streets the same way golf carts are used, but rules vary by location, so be sure to check your local regulations.
A 15 mph top speed is a lot of fun, but it's also much faster than most people are used to on a mobility scooter. A few simple habits go a long way:
Start in setting 1. Get comfortable with the throttle, steering and hand brakes at 4 mph before moving up to faster settings.
Practice braking with both hands. Because the Prestige coasts when you let off the throttle, practice a few stops in an open area so you know how much distance you need at each speed.
Slow down for turns and slopes. Take corners, hills and grassy areas at a lower speed.
Use walking pace around people. Sidewalks, parking lots and community events are the right time for setting 1.
Turn on your lights. Use the headlights, running lights and turn signals at dawn, dusk and night so drivers and pedestrians can see you.
Know where you can ride. Check your local rules and your community's guidelines for where recreational scooters are allowed.
The Prestige runs on a 48-volt sealed lead acid battery system and takes about 6 to 10 hours to fully charge. Its range of up to 35 miles depends on rider weight, terrain, speed and temperature, so hills, grass and cold weather will shorten it. A few habits help protect your battery:
Charge after each day of riding instead of waiting until the battery is nearly empty.
Let the charger finish a full cycle. Charging overnight is an easy routine to build.
Charge and store the scooter in a dry spot with moderate temperatures whenever possible.
Before storing it for a long stretch, charge it fully and switch off the rear breaker, as Kellon recommends for cold climates. Follow your owner's manual for charging during storage.
The batteries and charger are covered for six months, so let us know right away if something doesn't seem right. For more tips, read How Long Do Mobility Scooter Batteries Last?
A little routine care keeps the Prestige riding smoothly for years:
Check tire pressure regularly. Air-filled tires ride best at the pressure listed in your owner's manual.
Test both hand brakes before each ride. If a lever feels soft or stopping power drops, give us a call.
Keep lights, reflectors and mirrors clean and properly aligned.
Wipe down the seat and body after dusty or wet rides.
Store it covered, ideally in a garage or shed, when it's not in use.
Tires, brake pads, lights and upholstery are considered wear items under the Bespoke warranty, so regular care helps them last longer.
The Prestige ships free by freight carrier, usually within 1 to 3 business days from Phoenix, Arizona. Because it arrives fully assembled, the shipping carton is large, about 80" long, 36" wide and 54" tall, and weighs roughly 303 lbs. Plan for a spot with plenty of room to unbox it, such as a garage or driveway.
When your scooter arrives, inspect the packaging before signing. If you see damage, note it on the delivery receipt. If you find damage after unboxing, contact us within 48 hours with photos and we'll handle the claim with the manufacturer for you. Prefer a hand with setup? White glove delivery is also available.
Bespoke backs the Prestige with a lifetime limited warranty on the frame, a two-year limited warranty on non-consumable parts and electronics, and six months of coverage on the batteries and charger.
When you purchase through Electric Wheelchairs USA, you also receive free one-year in-home service. If something goes wrong in the first year, our team will first try to troubleshoot with you over the phone. If that doesn't solve it, a technician will come to your home to diagnose and resolve the issue.
Up to 15 mph. It has three speed settings: 4 mph, 8 mph, and 15 mph.
Up to 35 miles, depending on rider weight, terrain, and speed. A full charge takes approximately 6 to 10 hours. For tips on getting the most from your battery, read How Long Do Mobility Scooter Batteries Last?
The Prestige supports riders up to 400 lbs.
No. It coasts when you release the throttle and stops using two hand brakes. An optional electric brake assist helps slow the scooter, but you'll still use the hand brakes to come to a complete stop.
It isn't recommended. The Prestige is designed for outdoor recreational riding, and its 90.6" turning radius makes it difficult to maneuver indoors.
Yes. It's rated for inclines up to 15 degrees. In our testing, it climbed moderate hills from a standstill and climbed easily with a running start.
The body comes in Red, Blue, or White. The seat comes in Black, White, or Brown, and the wheel rims come in Chrome, White, Black, Red, or Gold.
Yes. It arrives fully assembled. You'll only need to attach the rear-view mirrors and switch on the breaker in the rear compartment before your first ride.

Just go in with clear expectations. It's an outdoor cruiser with a wide turning radius, and it relies on hand brakes for stopping. If that matches the way you plan to ride, the Prestige is a stylish, capable scooter you'll look forward to taking out every day.
