During this time, a relative of Mr. Thieme began suffering from multiple sclerosis and lost most of his mobility. This was during the 1960s and at that time, there were not many mobility assisted devices on the market. Mr. Thieme was determined to find a better way to assist his family member and give them back their freedom.
He began to work in his garage in the the evenings after work to develop a mobility aid that would allow people regain their independence. The first mobility device he created was called the Amigo. This electric power operated vehicle or mobility scooter was such a big help to the people who used it, it became the first product in a new industry.
