ComfyGo IQ-7000 vs. IQ-8000 vs. IQ-9000 vs. Majestic 440HD vs. Phoenix: Which ComfyGo Folding Power Chair Is Right for You?

Oct 5, 2026by Bjorn Orvar

ComfyGo makes some of the most popular folding electric wheelchairs in the industry. We get a lot of questions about them, especially about the IQ-7000, IQ-8000 and IQ-9000, which look very similar at first glance.

Kellon from our Electric Wheelchairs USA team lined up five of ComfyGo's top sellers to explain what makes each one different: the IQ-7000, IQ-8000, IQ-9000, Majestic 440HD and Phoenix. He also reviewed each chair individually. This guide brings everything together so you can find the right ComfyGo chair for you.

The Quick Answer

  • IQ-8000: the budget pick. The most affordable of the five, with a 330 lb capacity and a simple manual fold.

  • IQ-9000: the recline pick. Add the optional power auto-recline with headrest for comfort and changing positions throughout the day.

  • IQ-7000: the auto-fold pick. Supports 350 lbs and offers an optional automatic fold at the push of a button.

  • Majestic 440HD: the heavy-duty pick. Supports up to 440 lbs, with suspension on all four wheels and knobby tires.

  • Phoenix: the ultra-light travel pick. A carbon fiber frame that weighs about 27 lbs without batteries, with dual batteries for up to 23 miles.

What All Five Chairs Have in Common

Before getting into the differences, here's what makes ComfyGo chairs so popular across the board:

  • A wireless attendant remote (included with the IQ models and 440HD, and available for the Phoenix). It lets a caregiver drive the chair while walking beside or in front of the rider, and it lets riders who can't use a joystick drive the chair themselves. We'll cover it in more detail below.

  • Dual 250W motors (500W total), which is a lot of power for a folding chair

  • Folding frames that fold in seconds

  • Airline-approved battery options (see the details for each chair)

  • Electromagnetic brakes that stop the chair automatically when you release the joystick

  • Freewheel mode for pushing the chair manually or using it like a walker

  • Flip-up armrests and flip-up footplates for easier transfers

  • Two ways to charge: on the chair through the joystick, or off the chair by removing the battery

  • Customizable style, with textile cushion upgrades on every model and frame color choices on the IQ models

  • Our 7-day risk-free trial

ComfyGo IQ-7000: The Auto-Folding Chair

The IQ-7000 stands out for two reasons: its 350 lb weight capacity and its optional automatic fold. As far as Kellon is aware, it's one of the only folding power wheelchairs on the market that folds itself.

How the Auto-Fold Works

With the chair powered on, hold the fold button on the joystick (it has arrows that look like the chair folding) and press the horn button. The chair folds on its own and powers off. To unfold, set the chair on its wheels, power it on, hold the unfold button and press the horn. You can also fold and unfold it from the wireless remote.

The auto-fold is an upgrade. A manual-folding version is also available if you'd prefer to save the difference.

Key Features

  • 350 lb capacity with an 18" x 18" seat. ComfyGo sometimes lists a wider measurement taken armrest to armrest, but the actual seat is 18 inches wide.

  • Honeycomb tires, solid perforated tires designed to give a little like air-filled tires without ever going flat

  • Front and rear suspension for a smoother ride over bumps and cobblestones

  • Lots of storage, including a large zippered pouch under the seat (behind the Velcro calf strap), zippered side pouches and a rear pouch

  • Four frame colors and eight textile cushion colors, with covers that unzip for washing

  • About 64 lbs for the manual version and 67 lbs for the auto-fold version

The IQ-7000 travels about 13 miles on its airline-approved battery. In his video, Kellon also mentions a longer-range battery of about 19 miles that is not airline approved. Ask our team about current options.

Travel tip: Airlines require you to remove the battery. With the auto-fold version, you can unlatch the battery pack, set it on the ground still plugged in, fold the chair, then unplug and carry the battery on board.

ComfyGo IQ-8000: The Budget-Friendly Choice

The IQ-8000 is the most economical chair in the lineup, but as Kellon says, don't let the price fool you. It's a high-quality chair backed by ComfyGo's excellent support.

Key Features

  • 330 lb capacity, above the roughly 300 lbs found on many folding chairs

  • Two seat widths, 16" or 18" (about 18" and 20" between the armrests)

  • Two battery options: 12Ah for up to 13 miles (airline approved) or 20Ah for up to 19 miles

  • Solid tires that never go flat. ComfyGo switched from air-filled tires based on customer feedback.

  • Large under-seat storage pouch that holds the charger, tools, remote and more

  • Adjustable footplate with three length settings

  • Joystick with a mute button to silence the reverse beep

  • Simple manual fold: release the latch and fold it down, and it stands upright for closet storage

  • About 53 to 55 lbs without the battery

Comfort tip: If you upgrade to the textile cushions, you still receive the standard mesh cushion. Some customers layer both for extra padding.

ComfyGo IQ-9000: The Auto-Recline Chair

The IQ-9000 looks similar to the IQ-7000 and IQ-8000, but its big selling point is an optional power auto-recline. Kellon notes it's the only folding power wheelchair he's aware of with this feature.

How the Auto-Recline Works

Press the recline mode button on the joystick. The seat-back icon lights up in place of the wheel icon, and the joystick then reclines the backrest back or brings it upright. Press the button again to return to drive mode. You can also recline the chair from the wireless remote. The auto-recline upgrade adds $450 and includes a headrest. Many riders appreciate being able to change positions for comfort and circulation throughout the day.

Key Features

  • 310 to 330 lb capacity with 16" or 18" seat widths

  • Up to 19 miles from two lightweight batteries of about 3 lbs each

  • 10° incline rating. Kellon rode it easily up a paved incline of about 10 degrees.

  • Large zippered under-seat storage

  • Adjustable headrest and footrest, comfortable for Kellon at 6'4"

  • Two-position adjustable anti-tip wheels

  • Removable joystick for travel, easily moved to the left side

  • About 49 to 52 lbs without batteries

Battery tip: To get the full 19-mile range, use the included connector cable that links both batteries. When charging off the chair, each battery charges separately and takes about 4 to 6 hours.

Travel tip: A protective travel cover is available for flights. For the most compact fold, remove the headrest, which only takes loosening two pins. Note that the auto-recline version is a bit wider when folded, about 26 inches.

ComfyGo Majestic 440HD: The Heavy-Duty Chair

Kellon calls the Majestic 440HD "the behemoth." It supports up to 440 lbs, one of the highest capacities of any folding power wheelchair, and it's built so solidly that he describes it as "like a tank."

Key Features

  • 440 lb capacity with a seat about 20 to 21 inches wide

  • Optional armrest extenders that add about 2 inches per side, for up to roughly 24 inches between the armrests

  • DuraShock suspension on all four wheels and knobby, flat-free tires for grass and gravel

  • Digital joystick with a speedometer

  • Two battery options: 12Ah for up to 12 miles (airline approved) or 26Ah for up to 25 miles (+$100)

  • Weight-bearing armrests with zippered pouches

  • Optional accessories, including a headrest, elevating leg rests, a cup holder and a rear-mounted attendant joystick bracket

  • About 61.5 lbs without the battery

ComfyGo Phoenix: The Ultra-Light Carbon Fiber Chair

The Phoenix is one of Kellon's favorite chairs, and one of the hardest to keep in stock. Its carbon fiber frame weighs just 27 lbs with the joystick, batteries and footrests removed.

Key Features

  • 300 lb capacity in an ultra-light frame

  • Dual airline- and cruise-approved batteries, one on each side, with a switch to change between them, for up to 23 miles

  • Up to 5 mph, the fastest of the five

  • Ultra-quiet motors. Kellon says you can barely hear them.

  • Armrests that flip all the way back, well out of the way for easy transfers

  • Removable, swappable joystick that can go on either side

  • Textile cushion upgrades in a range of colors

Flying With the Phoenix

Kellon's recommended routine: remove the footrests, Velcro cushions, joystick and both batteries, and carry them on in a small bag. Then fold the 27 lb frame by folding the seat back down and collapsing the chair, and hand it to the airline. At your destination, the chair will usually be waiting on the jetway. Just unfold it and reattach everything.

IQ-7000 vs. IQ-8000 vs. IQ-9000: What's the Real Difference?

These three are the most commonly confused. They share a similar frame design, textile cushion options, under-seat storage and the wireless remote. Here's what sets them apart:

In short: choose the IQ-7000 if you want the chair to fold itself or need 350 lbs of capacity, the IQ-8000 if budget is the priority, and the IQ-9000 if you'd like power recline.

The Wireless Attendant Remote

The wireless remote is one of the features customers love most about ComfyGo chairs. Kellon believes ComfyGo is the only company he knows of offering this style of remote. It mirrors the joystick, so you can drive, sound the horn and adjust the speed. On the IQ-7000 and IQ-9000, it also controls the auto-fold and auto-recline.

Why it matters:

  • Face-to-face care. Traditional attendant controls mount on the back of the chair, so the caregiver is always behind the rider. With the wireless remote, a caregiver can walk alongside or in front and keep a real conversation going.

  • Independence for riders with limited hand function. Some riders find the remote easier than a joystick. They can hold it in their lap or against their chest and drive that way.

  • Convenience at home. Move to your couch or recliner and send the empty chair to another room, then bring it back when you need it.

The joystick must be powered on before the remote can be used. Remote range varies by model. Kellon has driven chairs from roughly 100 feet up to about 60 yards away.

Transporting Your ComfyGo Chair

Even folding power chairs can be heavy to lift. The IQ models and 440HD weigh roughly 50 to 67 lbs, while the Phoenix frame weighs just 27 lbs. A few tips:

  • Remove the batteries first to take several pounds off before lifting.

  • Lift with your legs, resting the folded chair against your thigh as you raise it into the trunk.

  • Consider the ComfyGo GoLift, a portable scissor lift that weighs about 25 lbs. Place the folded chair on the lift, raise it to trunk height, and slide it in.

  • Store it upright. Most ComfyGo chairs stand on end when folded, which makes them easy to tuck into a closet.

  • Textile cushion sets in colors like Blue, Red, Taba, Coffee, Teal, Gray and Purple. They're easy to wipe clean and add padding.
