The Vision series from Merits Health is one of the most popular power wheelchair lineups we carry. It's also one of the most confusing. With three chairs that share almost the same name, many shoppers aren't sure what separates the Vision CF (P322), the Vision Sport (P326), and the Vision Super (P327).
Kellon from our Electric Wheelchairs USA team lined all three chairs up side by side, then spent time riding each one individually. This guide brings together everything he found, so you can quickly see how the chairs differ and which one fits your body, your home, and your budget.
If you only have a minute, here's the simplest way to think about the Vision series:
Vision CF (P322): the economical, compact choice. A lightweight front-wheel drive chair that comes apart for transport. Best for budget-minded riders up to 300 lbs who mostly ride on smoother surfaces.
Vision Sport (P326): the all-around standard. A six-wheel chair with adjustable suspension, a 5 mph top speed, six color choices, and an optional power elevating seat. Best for riders up to 300 lbs who want a smoother ride and more features.
Vision Super (P327): the heavy-duty option. Supports up to 450 lbs, offers wider seats up to 24 inches, and has an optional elevating seat that rises a full 10 inches. Best for larger or taller riders who want a sturdy, tank-like chair.

The Vision CF is the most affordable chair in the series and the only front-wheel drive model. It supports up to 300 lbs, reaches a top speed of 4 mph, and travels up to 18 miles on a single charge.
Front-wheel drive is a popular choice for riders who want to climb over small obstacles and handle uneven ground, and it gives the CF a very tight turning radius. Because the weight is up front, its anti-tip wheels are also on the front, which helps prevent forward tipping.
The CF is packed with comfort features for its price. The captain's seat swivels to the side for easier transfers, the armrests flip up and adjust in both width and height, and the backrest reclines from 105° up to 135° with the included Allen key. Seats come in 16, 18 or 20 inches wide, and the CF only comes in red.
The Vision Sport is the most popular middle ground. It also supports 300 lbs, but it steps up to a 5 mph top speed and adds a full suspension system. It travels up to 18 miles per charge.
The Sport has six wheels on the ground: two drive wheels, two front casters, and two rear casters. The front casters use adjustable spring suspension, so you can set them firmer or softer, and the rear casters have springs as well. The drive wheels are flat-free with knobby tread, which helps the Sport perform well beyond smooth floors.
It's also the most colorful chair in the lineup, available in black, blue, green, yellow, pink and red. The optional power elevating seat raises you 6.5 inches, which is great for reaching kitchen cabinets and shelves around the house.
The Vision Super is the heavy-duty member of the family. It supports up to 450 lbs (400 lbs with the optional elevating seat), reaches 5 mph, and offers the longest range in the series at up to 20 miles.
Kellon described the Super as "like a tank" after riding it through grass. It shares the Sport's adjustable front suspension and rear springs, and adds larger 12-inch knobby drive tires and the steepest incline rating in the series at 8°. Its oversized footplate can even support 350 lbs if you stand on it.
The Super is built for larger and taller riders. Seats come in 20, 22 or 24 inches wide, the seat depth adjusts from 18 to 22 inches, and the four-post seat height is adjustable. The optional elevating seat raises a full 10 inches, the highest in the series.
One of the biggest differences in the Vision series is where the drive wheels sit. Drive type affects how a power chair turns, climbs and handles obstacles, so it's worth understanding before you choose.
Front-wheel drive (Vision CF): The drive wheels are in front of you, so the chair pulls itself forward. Many riders like front-wheel drive for getting over small bumps, door thresholds and curb cuts. The anti-tip wheels sit on the front to keep the chair steady.
Mid-wheel drive (Vision Sport and Vision Super): The drive wheels sit near the center of the chair, under your body, with caster wheels in front and behind. This design typically offers a very tight turning circle. Kellon showed the Vision Super spinning within its own footprint, and the six wheels help keep the chair stable on uneven ground.
For most indoor use, either design works well. If you'll often ride outdoors on grass, gravel paths or bumpy sidewalks, the six-wheel suspension setup on the Sport and Super is a noticeable advantage.
This is the biggest dividing line. The CF and Sport both support 300 lbs, while the Super supports 450 lbs (400 lbs with the elevating seat). The Super also offers the widest seats, up to 24 inches, and its armrests can be widened a further 2 to 3 inches with the included Allen wrench.
Kellon's tip for first-time buyers: if you have a desk or computer chair you find comfortable, measure its seat. That's a great starting point for choosing your seat width.
If you need more than 300 lbs of capacity, the Vision Super is the clear choice in this series. You can also explore our full range of bariatric power wheelchairs.
The CF is front-wheel drive, while the Sport and Super are six-wheel, mid-wheel drive chairs. Many riders like front-wheel drive for climbing and handling varied terrain. However, Kellon noted that the Sport and Super are more powerful, so they'll likely perform just as well, if not better, on slopes and rough ground.
The six-wheel design of the Sport and Super keeps all wheels in contact with the ground, even on uneven surfaces. In testing, the Super rode through grass without losing any speed. Learn more about the differences in our collections of front-wheel drive power wheelchairs and mid-wheel drive power wheelchairs.
The Sport and Super both have adjustable spring suspension on the front casters and springs on the rear casters. Kellon noted how smooth the Super felt over bumpy grass. The CF has no suspension, so it's best suited to smoother surfaces like floors, sidewalks and store aisles.
The CF tops out at 4 mph, while the Sport and Super both reach 5 mph. It may only be a 1 mph difference, but Kellon said 5 mph feels noticeably quicker. All three chairs let you turn the speed dial down to a gentle crawl for indoor use.
For range, the CF and Sport both travel up to 18 miles, while the Super goes up to 20 miles per charge. All three charge directly through the joystick.
The CF doesn't offer an elevating seat. Both the Sport and the Super do, and they share the same joystick with dedicated elevation buttons. The difference is height:
Vision Sport: raises up to 6.5 inches
Vision Super: raises up to 10 inches
An elevating seat is a big help for reaching cabinets, shelves and countertops, or for talking with others at eye level. Keep in mind that power elevating seats don't swivel, and on the Super, the elevating seat lowers the weight capacity to 400 lbs and isn't available with the 24-inch seat.
All three chairs use simple, easy-to-learn joysticks with a power button, battery gauge, speed dial and horn. The Sport and Super joysticks add buttons for the elevating seat. All three have electromagnetic brakes that stop the chair automatically when you release the joystick, plus freewheel levers so the chair can be pushed if the battery runs out.
One helpful note: the Super is heavy, so pushing it manually, especially across grass, can be a challenge. And if you're left-handed, let us know before you order the Super so the joystick bracket can be mounted on the correct side.
All three chairs have padded captain's seats with adjustable headrests, flip-up armrests that adjust in width and height, and semi-reclining backrests. The CF also has a swivel seat, which makes transfers in and out even easier.
For reference, Kellon is 6'4" and weighs 235 lbs. He fit comfortably in both the Sport and the Super, and he believes the Super could comfortably fit riders up to around 6'7" or 6'8".
All three backrests fold down flat, so if you have a ramp and an SUV, truck or van, you can drive the chair right in using the joystick. The CF is the easiest to transport by hand, since it comes apart into lighter pieces, with the heaviest weighing about 63 lbs.

The Sport and Super are heavier, so a ramp, hitch-mounted carrier or vehicle lift is usually the best option. Our team can help you find a compatible solution. Just call us with your vehicle's year, make and model.
Every Vision chair has a 1" x 1" rear accessory hitch for add-ons like a rear basket, oxygen tank holder or walker holder. Elevating leg rests are available for all three models, and a pan seat can replace the captain's seat if you prefer your own cushion. Each chair includes a small rear storage pouch, but a rear basket is a great upgrade if you need more storage.
You may spend hours a day in your power chair, so seat fit matters. Here's a simple way to measure:
Seat width: Sit in a firm chair and measure across the widest part of your hips or thighs. Many riders add an inch or two for comfort and clothing.
Seat depth: Measure from the back of your hips to the back of your knees while seated. A good fit supports your thighs without pressing into the back of your knees.
Seat height: Think about the height of the tables, desks and bed you'll pull up to or transfer onto.
Back and headrest height: Taller riders should look at how high the headrest can go.
Here's how the three chairs measured up in Kellon's videos and on our product pages:

The power elevating seat is one of the most popular upgrades for the Vision Sport and Vision Super. Many riders find it makes everyday tasks much easier:
Reaching kitchen cabinets, closet shelves and high pantry items
Working comfortably at countertops, desks and workbenches
Talking with family and friends closer to eye level
Lining up with higher surfaces, like a bed, during transfers
There are also a few trade-offs to weigh:
Cost: At the time of writing, the elevating seat adds $856 to the Vision Sport.
No swivel: Power elevating seats don't swivel, so you'll use the flip-up armrests for transfers.
Capacity on the Super: The elevating seat lowers the Vision Super's weight capacity from 450 lbs to 400 lbs, and it can't be combined with the 24" seat.
If you often need to reach things around the house, the elevating seat can be well worth it. If you mostly use your chair for getting around outside the home, you may prefer to save the difference.
Before ordering, measure your doorways, hallways and the tightest turns in your home, like a bathroom or the space beside your bed.

Many interior doorways are around 30 to 32 inches wide, but bathroom doors and older homes can be narrower, so always measure. The CF and Sport are the most compact. The Super is the widest, and as Kellon put it, whether it works well indoors depends on how big and open your home is.
Every Vision chair runs on two 12-volt batteries and charges through a port on the joystick. The listed ranges of 18 to 20 miles are best-case figures. Real-world range depends on:
Rider weight and anything you're carrying
Hills, grass and rough terrain
Riding at top speed for long stretches
Cold temperatures
The age and condition of your batteries
To keep your batteries healthy, charge after each day of use rather than waiting until they're nearly empty, and store your chair in a dry place with moderate temperatures. Remember Kellon's tip, too: the Vision Super is heavy to push in freewheel mode, especially on grass, so it pays to keep it charged. Learn more in How Long Do Mobility Scooter Batteries Last?
